Stitch.

1. A place for ideaposts. Idea posts are for things I’d like to do or see someone else do. Email me or reblog if it makes you think of something related, or already done, or that you’re about to do with me.

2. A concoction of things that I like and a few things that I make. I'm especially into anything that helps me imagine ways to connect youth from different cultures in artistic, ridiculous, hilarious, serious exchanges.

3. Inspired by students & teachers I've worked with through projects like these: Inside/Out: Multimedia exchange between students in California and China. The Small World Project: Ongoing workshop series of online youth collaborations piloted in Hong Kong.

Some of my stuff: Videos on vimeo. Images on flickr.

WNYC’s Radiolab, always remarkable, has been creating more gorgeousness with their recent series on death. This video response from a listener on ‘moments of life’ is pretty stunning. I’d love to see what students here in HK would make if they tackled a project like this.

It’s time for a short trip outside HK. Last-minute cheap tickets will deliver us to Ho Chi Minh City in a few hours, then maybe on to Con Dao or wherever else I can find. We’ll be back to HK for a final couple workshops with some fresh collaborations and ideas from the past week of intense and wonderful happenings.
Lift off.

How fast does the earth move?

  • I was wondering how far the earth moves in the 15 hours of time difference to the US west from HK, with respect to the background radiation or whatever "fixed" reference point is commonly used in our infinitely ridiculous universe.
  • This exchange on answerbag.com between users Zigzag and KRH adequately captures the urgency of the question.
  • - - -
  • Zigzag: How fast does the earth move? Including orbiting the sun, with the solar system and the galaxy, within the galaxy’s arm, in relation to other galaxies and the universe.
  • KRH: About 1 million miles per hour.
  • Zigzag: Thanks for the reply, however I'm looking for a detailed answer. Like the earth orbits the sun at 67,000 mph, the sun and the solar system travel at...
  • I know I'm moving fast but I wanna know how fast.
  • - - -
  • Zigzag, you and I both.

3rd day of our 2nd Small World workshop. New group of students and a few new tricks up our sleeves. Today we remixed old footage from Ford Motor Co., inspired by and building upon a storyboarding workshop by Christophe Bruchansky in the UK. You can check out the final projects here:

Everything from dancing in space to cake suicide (or die lovely). It’s always a surprise to see what the students come up with. Tomorrow we plan to have them create a silent film. We’ll be voting on the topic.

Kicked off a new Small World workshop this week.. so far, really great. Among many other things, we’re building upon artist Christophe Bruchansky’s project from the recent Dreams of Progress exhibition in the UK, hoping to bring kids from the two places together through his great storyboarding & video remixing project.
We’ll be uploading our projects the ClipDub group on Vimeo, the same place you should visit to make a remix of your own right now.
